POST-INSTITUTE TOURISTIC PROGRAM

PROGRAM> Departure around 08h from the Crowne Plaza parking. Drive to Smederevo – the last medieval capital of Serbia from the XIII century until the Ottoman Empire tumbled. Visit Smederevo fortress – one of the largest on the Danube and among the most important in Serbia. It was built in the 15th century on the confluence of the Jezava river with the Danube, during the reign of Despot Djuradj Brankovic, the most distinguished representative of the Serbian ruling family.

After visiting Smederevo Fortress, we head for Kostolac town where we will visit the archeological site of Viminacium, once an important Roman town, the capital of the province of Upper Moesia in the period from the I until the IV century A.D. Christ’s monogram from the 2nd century was discovered in the Viminacium archaeological site and represents the oldest proof of early Christianity in this region. In Viminacium there are Emperor Hostelian’s mausoleum, temples, thermal baths, the north gate of the Military camp, an aqueduct and recently discovered Roman Pantheon and Amphitheater. Apart from the ruins and ancient tombs, we will also see the skeletons of many mammoths found during the excavation.

Our journey continues to Golubac Fortress, located on the right bank of the Danube, at the entrance to the Đerdap National Park. Built on a small stone hill, it looks like it is rolled off a Carpathian mountain, and the city walls seem to be fused with the natural environment. Nine massive towers, up to 25 meters high, unite the fortress and protect them from both the ground and the water. Visiting the fortress. Tour ends at famous restaurant Vinogradi for lunch / dinner ( optional).

Return to Crowne Plaza parking around 21h.
